UNDP RHA Emergency Medicine Strengthening Project

The Ministry of Health and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have been involved in the Regional Health Authority (RHA) strengthening project with a focus on Emergency Medicine departments. Part of that project has been an engagement with the World health Organisation (WHO) to do the Basic Emergency Care (BEC) introductory course.

The UNDP and the Ministry of Health also procured resuscitation manikins to be used for the BEC courses. The list included manikins for adult Basic Life Support, child Basic Life support, airway manikins for airway scenario, upper limb manikin for nurses to train on blood taking and putting up IV lines.

Each set was given to each base Emergency Department in all the base hospitals to be used at the hospitals and District Health Facilities. Dr Ian Sammy (pictured in front) was the main teacher and trainer for these courses. Attached is a photo of one of the nurses from Chaguanas Emergency Department receiving her certificate. Attached is also a photo of the staff of the various Emergency Departments receiving the manikins for training.
